History In 1598, the Spanish explorer Juan de Onate reched the vicinity of what is know today as the El Paso Lower Valley. The first mission school built in this area was estabished by missionaries in 1682. The Catholic church coninued to educate local children in this area through its missions. Our Lady of the Valley School had its roots in this area during the early postwar years. The parish was created as the need for an English language church and school grew. The original school then known as Our Lady of the Rosary of the Valley saw its first students in 1947. Classes were held at St. Margaret's Home for orphaned children on Valdespino Road until the current school building was built in 1951. The Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word originally staffed the school. Since then, a number of lay administrators managed the school. Today Our Lady of the Valley School is enhanced by the presence of the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help who make a unique contribution to the Church by reflecting to the students and parish community the charism of Saint Francis of Assisi. |
